Facilities

Part of the Southern Arizona Experiment Station, the 80-acre Al-Marah Equine Center houses an equine breeding and training center that includes a breeding shed, 2 covered arenas, 2 outdoor arenas, 48 stalls, and meeting spaces.

Instruction, Extension, and Event Infrastructure

Al-Marah Equine Center is positioned to support teaching or instruction, Extension activities, as well as local events.

AMEC Classroom

The Al-Marah classroom provides seating for up to 36 people in individual desks. This facility sits against a picturesque backdrop of Sabio Creek and Santa Catalina Mountains and is available upon request for teaching and public events for equine specific and general use. The classroom comes equipped with UA Wi-Fi, projector, screen and dedicated computer for use by UA affiliates. A meeting OWL is available upon request on a first come first serve basis. A small kitchen adjoined to the classroom is available for catered meetings and events.

AMEC Covered Arena

The Al-Marah covered arena provides an ideal venue for equine specific programming and outreach events including equine shows and auctions, symposia, veterinary workshops, and riding events. AMEC staff are available to water and drag the arena by request for events. The facility can accommodate up to 200 participants in a grandstand-style seating arrangement. Turnout and barn space for public events need to be arranged with AMEC staff during the reservation process. An external PA system can be made available by request.

AMEC Outdoor Arena

The Al-Marah outdoor arena serves as a venue for equine specific events and clinics. AMEC staff are available to water and drag the arena by request for events. The facility can accommodate up to 50 participants in a grandstand-style seating arrangement. Turnout and barn space for public events need to be arranged with AMEC staff during the reservation process. An external PA system can be made available by request.

AMEC Indoor Arena

The AMEC indoor arena is available for internal UA use for research and teaching. Due to biosecurity and quarantine considerations the indoor arena is not available for external use. This facility provides a climate controlled venue for equine specific programming with capacity for up to 70 people. UA Wi-Fi is available at the site and AMEC staff are available to water and drag the arena by request for events. An external PA system can be made available by request.
